Robert E. Lewis
Carried Lewis & Wright forward from the founders' generation. His work anchored the funeral home as a permanent fixture of North Nashville, and his standard of service still guides everything we do.
What began in 1953 as a promise between two Nashville men — Richard A. Lewis & William Wright — became a legacy carried through three generations of the Lewis family, rooted on Clarksville Pike, rooted in service.
In 1953, two Nashville men — Richard A. Lewis and William Wright — opened a funeral home on Clarksville Pike with a single, plainly-stated purpose: to serve North Nashville families with the same dignity that any family deserves, regardless of circumstance, regardless of cost. The name above the door was a promise to the community, and that promise has never been broken.
What has always set Lewis & Wright apart is not the building. It is the people inside it. Every arrangement is handled by a member of the Lewis family or someone they personally trained and trust. When grief arrives, so do we.
Nashville has changed enormously since 1953. The Clarksville Pike corridor has seen its share of change, hardship, and revival. Through every decade, the Lewis family has remained — a constant presence, an open door.

The funeral home has remained independently, family-owned since opening — never absorbed into a corporate chain, never sold, never franchised. That independence is intentional. A family that owns this home is a family that cares about every name that passes through it.
Two Nashville men with a shared vision establish Lewis & Wright Funeral Directors on Clarksville Pike. From the first day, the door is answered by family. The name on the building is a promise — one that holds to this day.
As the founders' generation passed, Robert E. Lewis stepped forward to carry the family standard. Under his stewardship, Lewis & Wright cemented its place as a trusted name across North Nashville — quietly serving family after family, decade after decade.
The second generation of Lewis leadership brings the funeral home through some of Nashville's most transformative decades. Under Mr. Lewis, services expand to include cremation, full veterans honors, and the deeply personal arrangements that have become a hallmark of the Lewis & Wright name.
The third generation — Richard Lewis II and Michael Lewis — now serves alongside their father. They were raised in this building, trained by the family's exacting standard, and bring the same unhurried care their grandfather and great-grandfather were known for.
Lewis & Wright Funeral Directors remains at 2500 Clarksville Pike — never sold to a chain, never franchised, never absorbed. When you call, a Lewis answers. That has been true for 72 years, and it will be true tomorrow.

Owner and director of Lewis & Wright Funeral Directors today. Mr. Lewis has dedicated his life to continuing the legacy his family built — guiding Nashville families through their most difficult days with grace and unhurried care.
The third generation carries the family's commitment forward. Richard II was trained under the family's exacting standards, ensuring that the same care given on day one is the care given today — every arrangement, every family.
Michael brings a measured compassion to every arrangement he oversees. As a third-generation funeral director, he understands that the work is personal — because in North Nashville, most families already know his name.
